A Sneak Peek into the Global Star Radio Network

Many people who don't really know radio contend the medium is dead or dying. But those who do know radio argue that it's still in large portions a vital medium. The problem, they argue, is that too many stations are poorly managed, often from distant headquarters by executives more interested in making the numbers look good than running stations smartly for the long term. And this is where the radio incorporation of Global Star has picked up the market demand.

The Global Star project was launched in 1991 as a joint venture of Loral Corporation and Qualcomm from latter’s CEO Irwin Jacobs to former’s Bernard Schwatrz in New York City. On March 24, 1994, the two sponsors announced the formation of Globalstar LP, a limited partnership established in the U.S. Globalstar received its US spectrum allocation from the FCC in January 1995, and continued to negotiate with other nations for rights to use the same radio frequencies in their countries. Some important facts to record are –

  • The Company's products include mobile and fixed satellite telephones, simplex and duplex satellite data modems and satellite airtime packages.
  • GS radio network’s satellite frequency is 11836 and the symbol rate is 20.765.
  • You can listen to daily shows like USA Prepares, The Power Hour and Hagmann & Hagmann, etc alongside demand podcasts.
  • GS network maintains a five-week schedule with Keith Handson, Ted Broer and Jeff Rense being the prominent RJs.
